Wednesday night, MTV presented the finale of The Challenge: Rivals. If you haven't had the chance to watch this finale, don't read this- it includes who wins. This finale had the highest ratings in six seasons, with 2.4 million viewers- that's 71% higher than last year's finale. So, from the girl who watches every season of the Real World, and then awaits every Challenge, my heart was set on Paula and Evelyn finally getting to the finish line. Paula Meronek (also known as Paula Walnuts on twitter) it's about time, girl. Here's what went down:
The final teams were:Johnny & Tyler- the rivals turned "brothers."
Wes & Kenny- Mr. Beautiful and Mr. CockierLeroy & Michael- ROOKIES.
Laurel & Cara Maria: The mean girl and the horse lover.
Mandi & Jenn DQ. |
Jenn & Mandi: The bad ass and the pretty girl.
3rd place: For the first time, the 3rd place teams (who go home with nothing) didn't even make it to the end of the race. After struggling from the get go, Jenn and Mandi couldn't make it to the checkpoint before dark in the first ever overnight final challenge, and were DQ'd. Jenn did have food poisoning, but let's be honest, would they really have beaten the others? Hm. Leroy and Mike suffered through the freezing night of no sleep and pain, but decided that when they saw the last leg of the race being an uphill climb, Mike was in no shape to do so, and they DQ'd as well.
2nd place:
Kenny carrying Wes. I'm sure he took 4 steps, then dropped. |
Wes and Kenny spend the entire challenge yelling at each other. Throughout the season, Wes carried the team, as Kenny was the clear weak link, and the team wouldn't even have gotten to the final without Wes. So, when Wes' leg spasm began and Kenny literally carried him, complaining the whole way, I was personally surprised that Wes didn't blow up on Kenny explaining that it was about time he carried his weight. Well their bickering only got them to second place, where they won a measly $50,000, and left still hating each other-- the only team to really do so. Reunion should be interesting.
Laurel and Cara Maria had each other's backs on the Challenge and left being amazing friends. The happiest 2nd place team I've ever seen- especially for Laurel. The once-hot-headed girl who hated losing more than anything, had a smile on her face and Cara Maria in a bear hug while they celebrated making it that far, pushing each other and working together through the entire thing, and of course taking home the 50Gs.
Winners:
Johnny Bananas and Tyler pulled from behind and came out with a win in the hardest, and probably most frustrating final of all time--- and Tyler had food poisoning. Tyler, advised by doctors not to compete, pushed through, even eating a what looked like 10-course meal, and throwing up half of it. Johnny and Tyler pulled out the win by using the one thing that all the other male teams didn't have (with the exception for friends Leroy and Mike): teamwork. Shocker that that actually worked, huh? The two referred to each other as "brothers" numerous times throughout the Challenge, and trusted each other when they needed. Even backstabbing, cocky, Johnny told Tyler to open the final box that led to the trophy. Let the Bromance begin!
Evelyn & Paula celebrating. |
Paula finally makes it to the big money! I was jumping for joy to see Paula and Evelyn run to the finish line, especially after seeing Paula's face of excitement. Evelyn and Paula both explained that they couldn't have done it without the other and it was all happy tears from then on. What a pair!
So, I leave asking myself with this: What now? Besides Wes and Kenny, are there still big Rivals in the Challenges? I mean, I know there will be fights, but the hater relationships have for the most part, been squashed. Why watch the show now?
Oh you know we will. I'll be here to keep you posted.
