MTV, as we all know stands for Music Television, regardless of how much music they actually play. Besides at 4 am, MTV doesn’t have much music videos anymore, but does give us a full dosage of reality TV. It’s a guilty please for most—admit it. I will. But how far will reality TV actually go?
One of the most popular guilty pleasures among us is the 16 & Pregnant spin offs of Teen Mom and Teen Mom 2. We get to see a weekly dose of a handful of young mothers who struggle to make it as a teen mother. It shows realistic problems that teenagers go through when they get pregnant at a young age, and MTV does a nice job of adding in some advice from Dr. Drew on how to protect yourself. However, it also gives us some trashy TV, and we’re a little disappointed from MTV.
One day we see Amber, the aggressive mother screaming curse words to her on-again, mostly off-again beau Gary, in front of her little one, and it sounds more like an episode of Jerry Springer with the amount of beeps we here. Next, we see Janelle from Teen Mom 2, who’s strong country accent is mixed with a dirty mouth and disrespectful attitude to her own mother, which is also mixed with drug abuse and jail time. She got arrested yet again yesterday for breaking her probation. Shocker.
Sure, I watch MTV. I'm a 20-year-old female, and I'm Italian so Pauly D is definitely entertaining. However, I feel like MTV could probably get some more viewers on more, shall we say, "classy" shows? C’mon, MTV, we still believe in you. Don't turn into another trashy channel.
